HANGLETON BOWLING CLUB – COMPETITION GENERAL RULES from 2007
1. Entrants must have paid the annual club subscription and the competition entry fee before commencing play. Aspiring members may enter, pending final acceptance.
2. Entries must be made on the official form and submitted, not later than one week after the opening of the green, to the Hon. Treasurer or, if he is not available, to any Committee Member.
3. Competitors [or skips of competing teams] must, by mutual agreement arrange to play on or before the closing date for the round as posted on the Competitions Notice Board. Non-appearance of either party by 30 minutes after the agreed time will automatically cede the match to the other.
4. Any difficulty in arranging a date for a match or any other problem concerning completion of a match by the closing date must, in advance of the closing date, be referred to the Competitions Secretary for resolution. This may be done by either competitor. If this is not done and the match is not played in time both parties will be disqualified giving a bye to the next round opponents. The Competitions Secretary, with the committee authority, will be responsible for ensuring this rule is strictly adhered to and his decision will be final in any dispute.
5. In the event of the green being declared unfit for play by the groundsman, matches must be re-arranged. If this occurs on the closing date of a round an extension of 2 days is allowed. If the green is declared fit, arranged matches must be played unless both parties agree to a re-arrangement within the time limit. If one party refuses to play they forfeit the match.
6. The first named competitor, pair, triple or rink on the competition list shall be regarded as the challenger[s]. The challenger[s] shall be responsible for:
a] Supplying three dates, one of which is a weekend day, on which the competition could be played, avoiding if possible, all club matches and county competitions.
b] Supply a marker for single matches.
c] Display the booking, time and his/their chosen rink on the diary board and in the desk diary.
The order of priority for rink/green reservations are:
i County Competitions
ii League Matches
iii Representative Club Competitions [Bill Hawkins, Abergavenny etc.]
iv Club Competitions
7. Evening matches must be started in time to finish by the green closing time. Afternoon matches must be started in time to finish before the evening session. Men’s Pairs and Mixed Pairs should allow three hours for their game.
8. On the day of the match no participant may play on the booked rink prior to the match.
9. The winner of each round is responsible for placing the signed card[s] in the Competitions box. The competitions sheets will be up-dated by the Competitions Secretary when the card[s] have been scrutinised.
10. In pairs and triples one substitute per team is allowed. The substitute must:
a] Be of equal or lower handicap than the original player, and
b] Not have played, or be due to play, in the same competition.
11. Only members who have never won a 4 wood singles competition may enter for the Novices Competition.
12. All competitions must be played in accordance with E.B.A. Laws and by entering members agree to abide by the above Rules which specify “that woods must bear a legal stamp of a B.I.B.C. tester” and accept as final in any dispute the judgement of the Competitions Secretary as the representative of the Committee.
13. Non-availability of Finalists shall be considered by the Competitions Secretary and Committee prior to, or on Finals Day. Substitutes may be used if deemed necessary.
